The Tender Light : Pisces
"There is a light that never goes out."
Morose fellows of Morrissey's misanthropy will surely recognize this trope.... it wove a current through my own violent youth, and that of many in the 80 and 90s.
"There is a light that never goes out."
Yet even the sun will sputter, one day. Billions and billions of years away.
In this classic Smiths’ song, Morrissey sings of the delusion of escape. The desire to attain an idealized state of bliss, avoiding the horror that underpins monotony. Which of us doesn't know that yearning? To dance the night away, let go the petty tyrants, transcend daggers of harm.
This is Pisces' epic battle. To swim always within the contrast of dark and light. Two fish, dreaming in two directions. Material and spiritual, murk and mercurial, woe and whimsy. At the same time.
Our New Moon of Pisces occurred yesterday, a bright Jupiter conjunction offering a clear view, so I thought to share some musings, a vision and an invitation. Read on, if you've the time.

Basic astrology teaches that this last sign of the zodiac embodies compassion, sweet poetry, spiritual grace, and blissful forgiveness.
Ha!
Far from dancing in light-soaked reverie, our collective entered Pisces season with a bang at the end of February. End times indeed, our whole world came to war.
And chaos reins.
I find it fascinating that the mythological origin of Pisces is steeped in pure chaos. I will be teaching more deeply about this archetype on Saturday night... please see the end of this email for a link. For now, I'll explore the mythology with you.
Let's dream back a few millennia. There is a great war afoot, a changing of the Gods. The great Titans have tumbled, as Zeus has usurped his father's throne. Casting Kronos and his cronies to the dark underworld of Tartarus, the new Olympians are rising. But in their wake, they have killed many of earth’s mythic creatures, including the Giants. Devastated, Mother Gaia (and some say she was fueled by Zeus's scorned wife Hera) has chosen to fight back. Coupling with the dark pit of Tartarus himself, Gaia births the most evil hellish creature ever known, called TYPHON. In her last ditch effort to reclaim Titanic control, Gaia unleashes a monstrosity and the planet is wrent. Completely out of control, Typhon destroys everything. He is pure unchecked chaos, horror and devastation. The Olympians flee in terror to Egypt while Zeus battles the Typhon, securing the new version of 'Patriarchal Order' he represents. Mount Olympus is born. Typhon is banished.

So what about Pisces?
Well, she arises of this chaos.
As the Olympians flee, sweetest Goddess of Love Aphrodite (Venus) and her amorous son Eros (Cupid) find themselves lagging. Their innocence at risk, they are compelled to dive into the Euphrates where they are taken on the backs of 2 fish, deep into the sea. Within this dreamworld, they escape the ravaging destruction bellowing above them. By diving into this peaceful watery realm, the divine forces of love are preserved. The two fish are honored for eternity by being elevated into the constellation Pisces.

Can you feel the Pisces dilemma? That dream of bliss, amidst chaos? That desire to escape the pain of destruction? To numb in reverie, while evil pounds the door?
I know that these days we are facing a paradox, collectively. Do we hate, or do we love. For this is winter's dark jest, the end of times. This is the threat of innocence, yet again. Round and round and round we go. We've been here before, we will be here again. As sweet Venusian Joni Mitchel reminds, we are all 'Captives on the Carousel of Time' (She had Venus conjunct Neptune and opposite her Pisces moon...amorous dreamer indeed).
And in these times, OUR times, of victimization and chaos, tyranny and collapse, where do we normal folk go? How do we make sense of even MORE horror??? Where do we escape???
Tuesday night, on the eve of the Pisces New Moon, Spirit sent me a dream. One of those '3am wakers'. Its message meant to be shared. So here it goes:
"CHOOSE ABOVE THE LINE"
That was it. Simple, yet profound. Pisces magic lies in the balancing of the dialectical paradoxes within which we always exist: suffering/bliss, humanity/divinity, ugliness/beauty, tyranny/peace. And even more so, it lies in the MASTERY of them.
The famed Pisces DELUSION and INSANITY? This arises when her awareness slips into sleep and she plays the inevitable Maya (illusional dream) unconsciously.
Her MATURITY comes from the wisdom to SEE what is happening, and to choose love anyway.
Hence, "CHOOSE ABOVE THE LINE" does not mean BYPASS THE SHIT.
It means CHOOSE. Love. With eyes open.
I suppose it makes sense, this instruction, given we are in Pisces season. And for those in the astrological 'know', it makes more sense given the encroaching (and EPIC) Jupiter/Neptune conjunction at 23 degrees of Pisces on April 4th. This will be a brilliant gate of a transit - mark my word. These next 8 weeks we will ride the tail of this behemoth. Remember, please, this conversation over these next weeks. For always our point of awareness determines our outcome.
And please remember: the 'light' is not blissful ignorance. Often, it is damn hard work at the best of times to stay above that line. It takes muscle, to swim upstream. It takes courage and determination, to lift your frequency, your attitude, your life. YOU.
ABOVE THE LINE.
So let's keep dreaming, Pisces friends. No choice, really, but to swim. Just please don't swim blind... LOOK. SEE. KNOW. LOVE. LIFT.
And I invite you to come join my Pisces Archetypal Reel, this Saturday night!!! I would love to have my friends with me there, to explore her magic. I have missed you so much.
Here is the link to sign up. It occurs live at 5pm EST on Saturday evening. I will send a zoom invitation an hour before.

“Our knowledge is a torch of smoky pine
That lights the pathway but one step ahead
Across a void of mystery and dread.
Bid, then, the tender light of faith to shine
By which alone the mortal heart is led
Unto the thinking of the thought divine.”
— Philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist George Santayana (1863-1952)
