When Power Meets Power
Circe Offering the Cup to Odysseus, John William Waterhouse
My favorite Witch... on a Scorpio New Moon Day.
Celebrating the powerful divine feminine in form.
Circe was the first Demi-God to master the physical art of magical transformation. Or... Pharmakeia. And the Gods banished her for it.
How dare a woman be so powerful???
How dare she master the art of transformation?
Alone on her island Aiaia (just try pronouncing that!), Circe went a little bit mad. When ships would arrive, filled with leud and rude male sailors, she would give them shelter and food... until their behavior went sour. If they made an attempt to touch her against her will, to overpower her, to rape her... she would turn them into...
PIGS.
Yes, that's right. Little piggies all.
Circe speaks to the POWER OF FEMININE RAGE. That part of us that will not be bound. That part of us that will not take it any more. That refuses to stand victim to misogyny, abuse and neglect.
Circe is FEMININE POWER. Which, at times, can be a bit much.
Only when Odysseus arrives on the island does she meet her match. A powerful man who can not be tricked by her. Her love for him softens her, as she allows herself to be met... as an equal.
A powerful woman wants a powerful man. A man, her equal. Able to stand up to her witchery, without overtaking her. Without attacking her. Without stripping her bare and humiliating her.
May we all find our equal match, on this Scorpio lunation. Our deep souls mate. Our powerful alchemical 'other'.
With love,
Sara
